“What you are, the world is. And without your transformation, there can be no transformation of the world.” J Krishnamurti
Today is a very sad day. I, along with the rest of America, awoke today to the news that a gunman killed at least 50 people and injured more than 50 others early this morning at a gay nightclub in Orlando, FL.
This is a hate crime. It is horrifying beyond words. This shocking and terrible type of thing can only happen in a world governed by fear. Fear breeds separation. Separation breeds hate. Fear is essentially the opposite of love.
As practitioners of yoga and lovers of the good, the true, and the beautiful, we have an option – and a responsibility – to uproot every fear based thought and belief held within ourselves and shine the light of awareness on every judgment and idea that is not founded in love. As we look honestly at our own belief systems and the ways that we judge and attack others through our thoughts and gossip, we have an opportunity to heal the seeds of separation that create chaos in the world around us. We have a chance to return to wholeness, to return to love.
I want to share with you one of my favorite meditations that I learned from one of my mentors, Gabrielle Bernstein; this is a tool to create inner peace in order to see outer peace. This is a simple and very effective Kundalini meditation that I teach to all of my clients.
Sit in a comfortable position and take a few deep breaths inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Breathe like this until you feel relaxed yet alert.
Press the tip of your thumb against the tip of your index finger, then your middle finger, then your ring finger, then your pinkie.
When you touch your index finger, mentally say “Peace”
When you touch your middle finger, mentally say “Begins”
When you touch your ring finger, say “With”
When you touch your pinkie finger, mentally say “Me”.
Peace Begins with Me.
I encourage us all to honestly look within and shine the light of truth and awareness on any fear based thought that separates us from love.
Peace begins with me.
Peace begins with you.
Peace begins with all of us.
Sending love from my heart to yours.
