Alkalizing your body simply means reducing its acidity, and you can do that by eating the right kind of foods. There are many benefits to alkalizing your body like better sleep, more energy, mental alertness, weight loss, healthier tissues, reduced inflammation and reduced risk of chronic disease.
In his book The pH Miracle, Dr. Robert Young says “The pH level of our internal fluids affects every cell in our bodies.” Chronic acidity corrodes the bodily tissue and can interrupt all functions from digestion to the beating of your heart to the firing of your brain!
Boost your energy and feel your best by alkalizing your body. Here are 8 ways to do it:
1) Increase your intake of lemons and limes. Not all acidic foods are bad.
This may seem counter-productive since you are trying to reduce acid levels in your body, but not all acidic foods are bad for you. Case in point: lemon. Lemons are acidic, but they leave an alkaline residue when consumed. Add a few drops of lemon water to a glass of warm water and drink it first thing in the morning. This will boost your body’s metabolism and alkalize your system for better digestion all day long!
2) Eat your fruits and veggies.
Another great way to alkalize your body is by adding dark leafy greens, more vegetables and fruits into your diet. Try a delicious green smoothie or a simple green salad with a big squeeze of lemon and a dash of black pepper for seasoning.
3) A for alkalizing. A for almonds.
Snack on a few raw, unsalted almonds. Almonds contain naturally occurring alkaline, magnesium, and calcium, which help your body to balance your body’s blood sugar and acidity.
4) Ditch the dairy.
Dairy is one of the most detrimental things we consume. It is highly acidic and creates mucus, inflammation, digestive upset and the protein found in cow’s milk is highly linked to cancer. Switch your to non-dairy milk (cashew milk is my favourite!) and begin experimenting with dairy free cheeses and alternatives.
5) Work out!
A daily boost of movement is vital to the balance of acidity and alkalinity in your system. Exercise helps to sustain and restore the pH balance of tissues, blood, and cellular fluids. It also boosts digestion and provides energy and happiness hormones to make you feel more vibrant all day long!
Meditate to reduce the negative impact stress takes on your body and mind. Stress increases cortisol levels, which leads to acidity, weight gain, and sluggish digestion. Meditate to connect to your center, your soul, your breath, your body. When we feel connected, stress levels lessen and we tend to naturally make better choices that enhance our wellbeing.
7) Eat a plant based diet.
Try to consume as little meat as possible. Better yet, start a completely plant-based diet. Meat leaves residual acid in your body even after it has been eliminated. It is highly acidic and difficult to digest leaving you feeling sluggish and heavy – in body and mind!
8) Cut the sugar.
I know that cutting out sugar can be hard! I have a sweet tooth and eliminating sugar has been a personal struggle of mine for years. But here is the cold hard truth: sugar gives you wrinkles, makes you stiff, taxes your adrenals, causes inflammation, and makes you fat. And that is just the beginning…
